What to Wear to Summer Concerts

The start of summer brings forth a ton of opportunities for countless performances and festivals to attend. The warmer weather permits more outfit freedom, and I always find it so fun to dress in the same vein of the genre of the show I am attending.

Since there are SO many genres of music and types of concerts to attend, I’ve included two basic formulas for two types of events – outdoor and indoor. Let me know your go-to concert outfit and tips in the comments below!

Outdoor = Romper + Booties

The romper is sometimes seen as a tricky article of clothing to maneuver, but there’s no need to be afraid. Think of it as having all the benefits of a dress – easy to wear, one article of clothing instead of making 2 match, a streamlined look – plus pants. What’s not to love?

The great thing about rompers is that they are so popular right now that there are a multitude of cuts and colors to suit everyone’s body type and taste. Any brand with a bofemme (bohemian-feminine) vibe and a festival lookbook always has have a great selection of rompers.

The outfit above is one I wore to my first Coachella. The romper is Saylor and I purchased it on super-sale from Revolve. Revolve was the right choice for outfitting my desert self (I even saw the delivery truck when I was in Indio).

The one drawback to a romper is that sometimes the port-a-potty situation can be a little harrowing at times, but I still find wearing one piece better and easier than fussing with separates all day.

Indoor = S/S Blouse + Dark Bottoms + Booties

My indoor concert formula is a little more ambiguous because of different factors, but I always love the combination of a dark bottom, booties, and blouse.

Above is a jeans-friendly option. Black is obviously the go-to color to wear to a show, which is great because when I inevitably spill beer on my jeans nothing will show. If I want to show a little more skin, I’ll opt for shorts (as shown below).

I like to add interest to the outfit by wearing a silk blouse with a cool print (above), or an unexpectedly feminine silhouette (below).

Booties are my number-one choice for concerts for just as many functional reasons as fashionable ones. They’re sturdy and protect your feet from getting stepped on, but they have a streamlined and sleek silhouette that elevates an outfit (sometimes literally, with a heel) more than a sneaker would. The modern day booties’ fashion origin in rock-n-roll makes a concert the perfect place to wear them.
