stripes & boyfriend jeans

One of my favorite outfit combinations – featured today on @serialoutfitrepeater, is the pairing of a striped mariner tee with loose boyfriend-cut denim.

Shirt: Saint James. Jeans: Levi’s X Chiara Ferragni. Shoes: Stan Smith by Adidas Originals. Watch: The Horse. Ring: Tiffany & Co.

I have referred to this as my official “work uniform.” (Please note, I work at a start-up, so I only advise wearing this to casual offices. It also works for other casual occasions – shopping, brunch, etc.) It’s comfortable to move around in but still chic and classic enough to look put together.

Shirt: Saint James for J.Crew. Jeans: Levi’s X Chiara Ferragni. Trench: Zara. Left bag: J.Crew. Left scarf: Hermès. Right bag: Rebecca Minkoff. Left shoes: Stan Smith by Adidas Originals. Right shoes: Stuart Weitzman.

A striped t-shirt with skinny pants has always been considered a staple outfit of French women, made widely fashionable by Coco Chanel. As a woman of French descent, I have fully adopted this outfit into my regular outfit rotation (as you may see on my Instagram), but swapping in boyfriend jeans add a decidedly laid-back American vibe to the look.

An assortment of stripes from Saint James, Madewell, French Connection, and Sanctuary.

My favorite striped shirts are from Saint James – I have owned-slash-borrowed quite a few of these. My favorite boyfriend jeans are from Levi’s, Madewell, or One Teaspoon.

What I love about this combination is that it can be worn any time of year. I typically wear sneakers with this look, but boots also work for the winter. You can swap short sleeves for long and add a jacket (and scarf). Dressing up the look is also doable – with booties and a leather jacket, or heels and a statement necklace/lip (à la Jenna Lyons).

Whatever cuts of shirts or pants are most flattering or most liked by you does not matter, this simple classic combo is one that will never go out of style.
