The tumultuous political climate this past year has a lot of women wondering what it means to be an American. Some may think it’s an important thing to value. Some may think it’s not something to be proud of.

I think that relating the personification of our nation to very specific events, nuances, and ideologies is making things more complicated than they need to be. I prefer to think of being an American in broader strokes and ideas, and therefore being able to encompass all.

I just jotted down a few words that relate to what I think it means to be an American woman below.*

  • Accepting
  • Innovative
  • Confident
  • Open
  • Proud
  • Unwavering
  • Genuine

*To be clear, I am not trying to make any statements in regards to anything going on with politics, news, whatever. These words are agnostic to current events.

P.S. Today is the last day to enter my Independence Day Giveaway, where you can win awesome prizes from some of my favorite local Nashville stores. See my previous post or my Instagram for details!
