happiness is not a destination, but rather a manner of traveling

I’ve been at my new job for a couple of months now and I have to put in a certain amount of work every day. The quality of my work is measured in numbers. Generating results I am proud of is directly correlated to my effort. Each and every single day.

I am an inherently lazy person. A lot of people are. I’ve always valued efficiency to get my work done quickly and easily. “Work smarter, not harder,” I’d think. I still implement efficient tactics in the everyday, but nothing can substitute or alleviate the work that it takes to rack up a certain amount of numbers.

Some days pass with ease. Some days are challenging. Most days are a mix of both.

I always thought I would dread this kind of work, which is why I’ve never tried it until now. But I actually find the mix of routine and random simultaneously satisfying and exciting. (It certainly helps that I am surrounded by positive influence and motivation, too.)

What am I working towards? A financial status that goes beyond merely supporting myself and living comfortably – enabling myself to support others (a family, maybe?)

That notion is certainly apt motivation to get me through the day, but who knows how long it will be until I reach that point? It has struck me to be more mindful of the process I am currently in. I don’t want to miss the – dare my lazy self say it – enjoyment of the challenge in the everyday.

So while I will keep my eyes on the prize, I vow to be more present in the interim.
